Three of our commission members were in Lynchburg VA attending the Catalyst One-Day Conference.  Andy Stanley and Craig Groeschel were the featured speakers at today’s event.  The theme was “Momentum.”

Attending were: Dan Masshardt (Web Site and Resources) Samuel Ruggiero (Youth and Children Evangelism) Steve Dunn (School of Evangelism and Local Church Mentors) and a guest, John Yoder (church planter for New Horizons Manheim).

Here are just a few quotes from the leaders at this event:

“Momentum is never triggered by tweaking something old. It is triggered by introducing something new.”

“The new must be a noticeable improvement over the old.”

“Even a significant improvement has a limited shelf life.”

“Think differently about your church culture. You may say ‘Our people won’t ___________________ (you fill in the blank). Instead say, “We’ve haven’t led them to _____________.”

“Think differently about the mission. We say, “We can’t hurt someone’s feelings.” We need to say “We can’t allow someone to hold back the mission of the church.” Feelings can’t be in control over the Great Commission.”

“I will do today what I can do, to enable me to do tomorrow what I can’t do today.”

AND PERHAPS THE BEST TAKEAWAY FOR STEVE comes from Craig: “People live eternally somewhere.”
