EVANGELISM AND THE SMALL MEMBERSHIP CHURCH

The typical church in our Eastern Regional Conference worships around 90 persons each Sunday. These churches easily fit a classification called The Small Membership Church.  Unfortunately churches in this range rarely have either a specific vision or strategy for carrying out the ministry of evangelism.  Yet if they do not many communities will lack the intentional witness that transforms lives and these churches become more about maintenance than mission.  Yet evangelism was never intended to be the province of larger and more high profile congregations nor dependent upon a large pool of evangelistically minded persons.

The next offering in the ERC School of Evangelism addresses this topic in an elective class called “Evangelism and the Small Membership Church.” The class will be offered Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Fairview Bethel Church of God near New Cumberland.  It will be team taught by Pastor Dan Masshardt, who serves this particular small membership congregation and Dave Anderson from Mount Joy who is one of the commission’s evangelism mentors.  Class times are 8:30 am-3:30 pm.

The class costs $25 per person and you register by going to the Commission website at www.ercevangelism.com or one the commission’s Facebook page.  If this is your first School of Evangelism class, the tuition cost is waived.  Registration deadline is August 9th, but we encourage to register early to receive advance materials.
